THIS IS HOW LIPOSUCTION IS PERFORMED

Schematic cross-section through the skin, subcutaneous tissue and muscle tissue. The thickened area to the left is the area which is about to be treated with liposuction.

The liposuction cannula is moved back and forth through the fat layer in different directions, leaving the remaining fat tissue with numerous cavities.

The liposuction is finished. The fat tissue now resembles a "Sponge" sweitserost", with numerous small cavities and tunnels.

| Wearing a panty or an elastic bandage puts pressure on the cavities and forces the fat tissue to contract. After a few weeks, fine fibers of scar tissue will be formed. These fibers will hold the reduced fat tissue together. |
